I originally created and posting this article on the Teva.com Ember blog.

I’m an obsessive post card sender and collector—even if it’s just a trip two hours out of town, I feel compelled to buy a postcard. But here’s the thing: it’s an inexpensive way to share your adventures with others, and to remind yourself of the rad little memories you’ve made along the way. I like to send a post card to myself during longer trips, scribble a thought or two on them that I don’t want to forget, and come home to them later. It instantly puts a smile on my face—but I tend to just shove them in a drawer after that and never look at them. Bummer. So I whipped up with quick and dirty DIY project inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. Bam! Instant flip book and something I’ll actually—you know—look at every now and again. Here’s how to make one:

materials

Materials:

-A roll of colored washi tape (Japanese masking tape). We choose a road-trip-themed pack that included two different patterns.

-Postcards, ticket stubs, pictures, maps and any other paper keepsakes you want to include.

Start by sorting through your cards and tickets and decide what kind of order you want them to go in—experiment by arranging my size, type, date, or state. It’s helpful to make your two largest pieces the “covers” of the book (making them the first and last cards in the stack).

step2

Lay your last postcard down with the face up, and lay the second to last one, face down, to the left of the last postcard.

Measure out a strip of washi tape that’s only as long as the side of the smaller postcard.

Hold the two postcards together at the edges and evenly center the tape lengthwise ove the seam, so that equal parts of the tape cover each postcard.

step3

Smooth the tape down and make sure it’s sticking to both cards evenly. Fold the postcard on the left back so it lies over the first card you put down. It should flip open like a book.

Continue with each postcard or ticket stub until you have a decent-sized booklet.

step4

To complete, smooth a long piece of tape over the spine of the book. Go back through and write notes on each piece if you want to record certain memories, and you’re done!
